Oh Darkness, Old Friend

forget me not series 2 – The Romance of Ayin & Will

CHAPTER TWELVE

Darkness is a green-eyed beautiful seductress. With long tresses the color of midnight sky and skin drenched in creamy latte, her beauty rivals that of the pale moon rising on the sea.

Darkness has magic. When she wants to, her rich honeyed voice could temper the most vicious nightmares or numb the sharpest of pains.

Darkness is known far and wide as a lover of troubled souls.

And for the past weeks, Will had been flirting with her.

Every time the beast in him was agitated, Will was always tempted to visit Darkness’ lair.

Darkness owns a vast forest of towering trees, brooks, cliffs and valleys, all under the protective blanket of the sound of silence.

When the world was too loud and heavy to bear, it was the perfect respite.

Lost in Darkness, Will didn’t have to listen to the many rules and demands of the world. Nor hear the gentle cries of kindness, or worse, the stinking breath of traitors.

Walking into the quiet woods, he was far away from the lies that people tell and the suffocating sweetness of goodness.

But what he liked most about Darkness was that she was never afraid of the beast inside him. She didn’t think it was ugly. In fact, they’re friends.

Unlike Ayin, Darkness helps him free the beast and together — without the light– they howl, they bite and roam free in the night, with no one telling them they’re bad.

His beast is free to run wild in the forest, stretching its muscles and imagining it’s strong and handsome, lapping in waters that don’t mirror its scars and ugliness.

Darkness hides it all.

He was grateful for that.

And Darkness never turns him away.

He remembered the first night of his return.

Even after many years since his last visit, Darkness sensed him and was waiting for him by the massive gates of her property like the perfect hostess as he approached.

She beckoned to him with her signature red-lipped tantalizing smile.

Darkness: Hello Will, old friend. The beast finally wants to come out and play?

She graciously offered her pale, perfectly manicured hand, and he brought it to his lips.

Will: May I come in?

Darkness: Of course, Handsome. You are always welcome to my party.

Darkness clung to Will’s arm as she led him to the grand hall of her gothic mansion.

Darkness: I can’t wait to play with your beast. But first, let’s have a cocktail. The others are waiting. It’s going to be one hell of a party now that you’re here.

When it comes to Darkness’ parties, anything goes. There were no rules. And the hard drinks were always overflowing.

As they entered the hall, Will was struck by rows of lighted candles in antique candelabras and a majestic chandelier on the ceiling, which provided a halo to the open black bar below with neon lights.

In one corner, you could hear the longing tunes of a violin played by Sadness, while on another, the smashing sound of the drums beaten by Anger.

The party hall was the only area where music was allowed. The rest of Darkness’ estate was wrapped in silence.

And the magic was, you could choose which sound you want to hear. Or if you like, tune it all out with a snap of a finger, as you drink alone and wallow in a couch. Like Loneliness did.

That’s what makes Darkness so cool. She has an immense power of illusion and was always generous with it to her guests.

Suddenly, a man who looked liked Will – except that he was in expensive designer clothes, hailed him from the bar. It was Ego.

Ego: Hey, Will! Great to see you, man. Here, have a glass of bourbon.

Stretching to his full height, Ego strutted, thrust the glass in Will’s hand, and put an arm companionably around his shoulders.

Ego: (chuckles) Finally escaped the nagging of your girl, huh? Guess, what? You don’t need her. She doesn’t understand your goal. You don’t have to listen to her boring talk about goodness. What you need is to show your enemy who is more powerful– you! Don’t worry, when she sees how strong you are, she will like you even more.

Ego kept prancing and talking too loud that Loneliness became so annoyed he moved to another couch at a far corner.

As Will half-listened to Ego ramble on, his eyes swept through the big hall with a hodgepodge of crying ladies, sleeping beauties, lost souls, afflicted men, and other creatures of the dark. He couldn’t care less.

Drawing on Darkness’ power, he was about to throw on the cloak of invisibility when his eyes landed on the unmistakable thorny flesh of Betrayal, coolly drinking a smooth glass of scotch on the rocks like nothing happened.

Will: (growling) Why is that asshole here?

Darkness: (chuckling and soothing Will’s back with her hand) Don’t mind him, honey. He’s done with you. He won’t bother you here.

Will: (beast snapping and straining to get out) But I haven’t paid him back yet. (Then, loudly) Betrayal, you son of a bitch! Come over here and fight me!

Ego: (clapping his hands in delight) Oooh, one huge pitcher of power trip coming up! Go get him, Will! My money’s on you.

Anger, always ready to pick a fight, put down his drum sticks and rushed over to Will.

Anger: (raising both fists and feet dancing) Where’s the fight? Where’s the fight? I’m with you man. Just say the word and I’ll punch him.

Betrayal, never a stranger to a fight, slammed his glass on the bar and turned to Will.

Betrayal: (voice booming as he approached) You talking to me?

Will scrunched up his face and glared Betrayal down, his gaze traveling from the tip of his shiny mohawk, red and black painted face, tattooed arms, thorny flesh, muscular legs and booted feet.

Darkness, with one delicate hand on her hip, threw back her head and let out a tinkling laugh.

Darkness: (raising an eyebrow) Oh, so you boys want to fight, huh? Let me set the stage for you.

With an airy flick of her hand, Darkness conjured a boxing ring in the middle of the hall.

Excitedly, Anger ran to the platform. But before he could step inside the ring, Will blocked him.

Will: No. He’s all mine.

Anger: (nodding) Okay, buddy. I’ll cheer you on the sidelines. But remember I’m just here if you need a boost.

A fight always provided the best entertainment. The guests hurriedly gathered around the ring and placed their bets.

Ego: (talking to Sadness beside him) Wanna bet? My money’s on Will. Just you watch when he releases his Beast. Unbelievable power!

Sadness: I don’t know. From experience, Betrayal can be quite sneaky. He has secret moves up his sleeves to combat any Beast.

Just then, Betrayal jumped inside the ring. Cockily, he motioned with his index finger, goading Will to enter.

Betrayal: (sneering) What are you waiting for, you wimp?! Afraid you’ll be dead in minutes?

With an evil smile, Will sauntered inside. And then, walking to the center, he threw back his head and roared, finally releasing his Beast.

His clothes snapped to pieces as he grew as big as the Hulk, with a face uglier than Betrayal.

The crowd oohed and aahed.

For a moment, doubt crossed Betrayal’s eyes as he never expected the Beast in Will to be so big and monstrous.

Ego: (turning smugly to Sadness) See? I told you so.

They could only watch as, without warning, Will the Beast bared his fangs and charged at Betrayal, snipping him by the throat.

Fueled by Anger, and egged on by Ego, he slammed Betrayal on the floor and pounded.

Pounded so hard and repeatedly until blood gushed out from Betrayal’s face and body. Whatever energy and bluster he had left oozed out of him like ketchup in a well-squeezed tube.

Betrayal never had a chance. He was knocked out in less than 20 seconds.

Will the Beast: (growling) Stay dead, you asshole. If you come back, I’ll bite you again.

The crowd went wild, all praises for the Beast.

With his Beast out, Will felt strong. He could keep the enemies at bay because he bites. Betrayal won’t play him for a fool again.

Ego: (the first one to reach him onstage) Ooh, look at those muscles! The power! The glory! Feels good, doesn’t it?

Will the Beast: (roaring) Hell, yeah!

Darkness: (wrapping her arms around the the ugly beast)  Congratulations, Handsome. Ready to celebrate and run in the woods?

He nodded. Swooshing his tail, he turned around and rushed out of the ring on all fours. He abruptly stopped by the door to wait for Darkness.

Darkness: (giving the beast a sultry smile) You run along first, honey. I’ll join you in a minute.

The Beast nodded once and bounded onto the soundless night.

What Will didn’t know was, Darkness was also the lover of Betrayal.

After the fight, she quickly took him to a secret guest room and nursed him back to his thorny self.

Darkness was fond of Betrayal because she could always count on him to bring her people to play with in her parties.

But Will didn’t have to know that, Darkness thought.

With her powers, come morning, Betrayal would fully recover and be back in the world, hunting for its next victim, her next broken soul.

Satisfied with her work, she quietly closed the door on Betrayal.

Meantime, it was time to play with the Beast.

In the following days, Will became a regular visitor to Darkness’ lair.

Darkness was like a drug. She has the power to make your fantasies real in the land of illusion.

Here, he wasn’t so powerless. He could make things happen. He could have his revenge.

Here, he was a hero. He crushed Betrayal, didn’t he?

So, for weeks, Will joined her parties, ran in the woods, and played poker with his newfound friends.

Will became especially closer to Anger.

While Ayin made him question his priorities, he loved the way Anger always validated his reasons for revenge.

He never wanted to hurt Ayin. But right now, the Light around her annoyed him as hell.

He thought it best to stay away from her and just hide in Darkness’ place for now.

From time to time, he missed her. But Darkness was too sly, keeping his mind busy with nonstop entertainment, to think of her for long.

The longer he stayed, the more he got to know the others – Loneliness, Sadness, Depression, Bitterness and Fear. He started hanging out with them.

One night, they were all in one table playing poker.

Anger: Just leave her, buddy. She doesn’t understand our mission. She will only weigh us down.

Bitterness: (snorts) Those women could never handle it when their men fall. They like to see them always as superheroes. As if taking off the cape could mean the end of the world.

Loneliness: (throwing a card on the table) Careful… people often forget how important their partners are until it’s too late. Once they’re gone, you’ll never get them back. I should know.

Fear: (touching his arm) What will you do if she’s really  gone from your life? Will you be okay?

Will swallowed. In that moment, looking into Fear’s eyes, he was not so sure.

Suddenly, Anger folded, throwing his useless cards on the table. Frustrated, he stomped off and went back to his drums.

Loneliness: (chuckling) He’s always a sore loser.

Sadness: Just leave him be. It must not be easy for him. Do you know that his real name is Grief?

Surprised, Will looked at Anger, now loudly banging on his drums.

Sadness: His wife, prompted by Betrayal, ran away with his brother Greed and got killed in an accident along with their two kids. When he struggled to survive alone, his friends left him one by one, not knowing how to deal with him. So he changed his name to Anger to stop everyone from pitying him.

Will: No wonder Anger understands me so well. We both hate Betrayal. Good thing I killed him.

Loneliness: Betrayal? Dead? Nah, he’s alive. He never left.

Will: (stunned) You’re bluffing. You saw how I…

Loneliness: Didn’t you know? He’s Darkness’ lover. She brought him back to life.

Will was speechless. Darkness was keeping Betrayal, with him around, even though she knew how much he hated him? Was he being played?

The Beast in him howled.

Bitterness: (chuckling like a hyena) Darkness lies, you know. She hides so many things. Don’t tell me you’ve fallen in love with her.

Loneliness: You should never fall in love with her, man. She’s never loyal to anyone.

Will: (defensively) I’m not in love with her. I’m just seeking sanctuary.

Sadness: But didn’t you leave Ayin without a word to be with Darkness? While she waits not knowing where you are, you’ve been drinking, taking long walks, moving in and flirting with Darkness. I bet she would call that cheating.

Will: (in a whisper as the thought never occurred to him) Is it?

Loneliness: Why would you ever give up something real, or a bright future with Ayin, to play here with Darkness? Everything here is just an illusion. Someday you’ll wake up and find yourself surrounded by emptiness.

Will: Look who’s talking. Why are you still here?

Loneliness: I have no one. No home to go back to. I have no other place to go but here. At least I have Sadness here.

Will stared at Loneliness. The old man looked worn and beaten, with his hair unkempt and a white beard that kept growing almost to the floor, just like that of a beggar on the street.

Then Loneliness caught his gaze and held it. It made Will uncomfortable.

Loneliness: Yes, look at me closely, man. Do you really want to be like me in the future? Trapped here in the depths of Darkness?

Sadness: (whispering so Anger wouldn’t hear) You should leave while you still can, Will. Ayin is waiting for you. Didn’t you feel her tears on your back while you’re sleeping? That made me cry. Someone cares for you out there. Go back. You will never be happy if you stay here.

Bitterness: Well, there may be a way to be happy… if you can convince Ayin to stay here with you. But I doubt that she would. This is so not her style. She’s so high maintenance.

Yes, Ayin would never want to live here, Will thought. He didn’t want her to, either. She deserves better.

Suddenly, he was torn between missing her and his need to stay with Anger to complete his revenge on Betrayal.

Fear: The real reason you’re still here is because you’re afraid of failing again, aren’t you? You’re embarrassed to be fooled and afraid that people will think less of you. Or that Ayin would leave you first if you have nothing. Whatever happened to Fighter Will? I haven’t seen him for awhile.

Will’s head started to pound. And then, he felt the heavy weight of Depression’s arm.

Depression: Wanna go to sleep, buddy? I’ll take you to your room. You don’t have to decide now. Just sleep and you don’t have to face Betrayal, failure, even Ayin, or anything you don’t want to for now.

Will nodded and let Depression drag him to his room.

Darkness heard it all. She has a bad feeling she was going to lose Will soon.

Darkness: Yeah, just sleep, honey. I’ll guard the doors for you.

A piercing light woke Will up from a nightmare. By the time he fully opened his eyes, it was gone, leaving him only with the memory of a dark dream.

Ayin was telling him goodbye. She boarded a boat and shouted she was never coming back.

He couldn’t move or say a word. He was held numb in Darkness’ embrace.

And then, as the boat left, he could see lightning and the dark rage of storm at a distance.

He was helpless as he watched the rain pour, the wind whipping the sea, and big waves swallowing the boat, battering it to pieces.

Then lightning struck the sea. In that burst of light, he saw there was nothing left floating in the dark waters.

Ayin was gone. Lost forever.

And, suddenly, for the first time in the arms of Darkness, he felt cold. He swallowed and tasted the bitter, iron-like flavor of fear.

As Darkness went outside her mansion to take a breather, she smelled the intoxicating perfume of Pain.

The bitch has arrived, she thought.

Darkness flashed to the gate, trying to keep Pain at bay.

Pain: (kissing her on both cheeks) Hello, Dear Darkness.

Darkness: (scowling) What are you doing here, Pain?

Pain: I heard you’re having one of your famous Pity Parties. I’m here to have fun.

Darkness: (lifting an eyebrow) I always have a party every night and you haven’t come here for weeks. Tell me, why now? You’ve come for the man, haven’t you?

Pain: (letting out a peal of laughter) You know me so well. Yep, I want to meet him. I just met his girlfriend…

Darkness: (interrupting curtly) Not anymore.

Pain: (rolling her eyes) Well, okay, his ex-girlfriend. From the way she rambled about him, I think he’s a big deal. I want to meet him.

Darkness: (raising her nose in the air) He’s not up to receiving guests. Depression just put him to sleep.

Pain: Aw, come on, dearie. When has that ever stopped us? You’re such a party pooper and you’re the hostess.

Darkness: I’m still mad at you. The last time, you said you’d bring me some broken souls, but instead, you led them to the Light. And you know how much I hate Light, she’s my biggest rival.

That’s the thing about Pain. Her effect on people was quite unpredictable.

After spending time with them, she either breaks them, causing them to wallow in Darkness… Or she makes them stronger, letting them see the Light.

Sometimes she’s kind, influenced by Love.

Other times, Pain was a killer, too, leaving both Darkness and Light with nothing.

If Darkness was a seductive beauty, Pain was a femme fatale — pitting them against each other, according to what motive moves her at the moment.

And yet, no matter how much you hate her, Pain is so attractive that you can’t resist her. When you spend time long enough with her, Pain becomes addictive, too.

Just then, Darkness smiled in surprise.

Darkness: (glancing at Pain) Did you come with Love?

Pain: No, I came by myself…

But then, as she turned around to follow Darkness’ gaze, there was Love.

Darkness: (smiling softly and extending her hand to Love) Hello there, Handsome.

Like Will, Love took her hand and kissed it.

Contrary to what most people believe, Darkness is actually fond of Love.

Like now, Love isn’t afraid to take her hand.

Even if Love was closer to Light, he does not discriminate and also makes time to visit Darkness. Love sees the beauty in all.

And when Darkness lies, Love never judged or condemns her in public. He simply finds out the truth.

Unlike Light, Love is not jealous and doesn’t resent her when people come to seek her sanctuary.

Love: Why are we all standing here? Why aren’t we going inside?

Pain: (pouting) Darkness won’t let me. She’s protecting Will.

Love: (teasing) Come on, Darkness. Don’t be a scrooge. Let Pain in.

Looking at Love’s handsome face, Darkness felt her heart flutter. She couldn’t help but be swayed by him.

Darkness: (grumpily) Hmp. Okay, come in. If it wasn’t for you, Love, I would be kicking out Pain.

Pain, unoffended, just giggled behind Darkness’ back.

As they made their way to the mansion through the woods, Pain grasped Love’s arm to slow him down. Darkness went ahead to alert Will and Depression.

Pain: (whispering) Why are you here?

Love: (whispering back) Ayin sent me.

Pain: Uh-oh. You know she’d be angry if she knows I’m here, right? She specifically told me not to go near Will. Don’t tell her!

Love: You know I cannot lie. But that’s okay, I have a plan.

Pain: Is that why you were so kind to help me out back there? You’re planning to use me?

Love: (nods) I’ve been living in Will’s heart for sometime now, and still he refuses to recognize me. That man is so stubborn. He throws up too many walls like he’s building a house –an empty one at that. People like him need to be hugged by you to wake up and see me. (Love gives Pain his most dazzling smile) Do you mind?

Pain sighed. So her time was limited.

When there’s Love involved, it’s useless to play with these people for long.

Love is destined. He has Fate’s blessing and he can perform miracles.

Going against Love is just like swimming against the tide. So you don’t fight him. Pain has learned that if she didn’t want to drown herself, it was better to help Love.

Pain: (with a hint of irritation) Do I have a choice? You’re royalty. You command and we follow. (Then she smiles and winks at him) I’ll give it my best shot.

At Will’s room…

Anger: What?! You let Pain in? She’s so fickle-minded, we never know if she’s friend or foe.

Depression: (shaking his head) I have a bad feeling about this. Will is the type to fight Pain. And you know what they say, if you struggle against Pain, you become stronger and see the Light. Will won’t need us anymore.

Darkness: (scowling) What could I do? She was escorted by Love. You know Love makes me weak. I just can’t say no to him.

Loneliness: What does Will think about this? Just let him decide if he wants to meet Pain or not.

They all looked at Will. He was lying in bed, not asleep, just staring up the ceiling, not minding them at all.

Anger: What’s wrong with him?

Depression: (sighs) He’s been like that ever since he woke up from a nightmare. I don’t know what it’s about but it shook him up.

Just then, the door to Will’s room opened with a bang, followed by Pain’s cheerful voice.

Pain: Hey, Wiillll… your future wife is here!

Darkness: (flipping her glorious hair in annoyance) I told you to wait at the hall. You never listen.

To their surprise, Will suddenly sat up on the bed and started talking for the first time that day.

Will: Ayin is here? Alive? She’s safe?

Pain threw back her head and laughed.

Pain: I’m talking about me, you idiot!

Then Pain folded her arms and, butt swaying, approached Will with a gleam in her eye.

Pain: (studies him for a moment and then smiles widely) Sooo.. you’re Will. It’s sweet as hell to finally meet you.

Pain extended her hand. Will didn’t take it.

Will: Who are you?

Pain: Hm, I think we’ve met before. You just don’t recognize me. You were so young then.

Pain plopped down on the bed beside Will. When her shoulders brushed his, he suddenly had a vision of him on the verge of drowning at sea, as he swam in dark waters trying to find Ayin.

He had difficulty breathing. He moved slightly away from Pain and the vision vanished.

Pain: I’m Pain, remember? You just broke up with Ayin. So, I’m going to marry you instead and we’ll have a long miserable life together. Won’t that be fun?

Darkness: What are you talking about? Will is mine.

Pain: (smiling slyly) We’ll see.

Anger: (now worried) Get out of there, buddy. Pain is dangerous. She’s gonna make you want to kill yourself. Pain’s a killer.

Pain: (innocently) I don’t know what he’s talking about. I just met with Ayin and she’s still alive. I didn’t kill her.

Will: You know her? You saw her alive? With your own eyes?

Pain: (pouting) What do you care? You broke up with her, remember?

Pain touched his arm and showed him the scene at the restaurant where he told Ayin they should go their separate ways.

Something hot seared Will’s heart. He couldn’t believe he said that to her. His eyes burned.

Seeing Will affected by Pain, Anger became even more agitated.

Anger: (shouting) Will, let’s go! We need to find Betrayal. We have to kill him for good.

Darkness frowned at Anger. She’d rather have Betrayal alive.

When Will didn’t listen to him, Anger tried to grab Pain, who suddenly whipped her head and shot him with her piercing black eyes.

Pain: You try to touch me again and you’re dead.

Anger froze in place.

Pain: (in a softer voice, to Will) You want to see your future, sweetheart? Your future with me?

Will swallowed the bile gathering in his throat. Bravely, he nodded.

Desperate, Anger tried grabbing Will’s arm this time to pull him out of the room.

Will: Stop it, Anger! This is my future we’re talking about. I need to see this.

Anger:(whining) We have a mission to do. We haven’t properly killed Betrayal! This will just distract you, buddy.

Will: (pulls his arm back and shouts at Anger) I don’t care about Betrayal right now! Ayin is missing!

Pain sighed loudly, clearly at the end of her patience.

Pain: Look, Will. How much do you really like this guy? (points at Anger with her thumb)

Will: Right now? Not so much.

Pain: You want me to kill him for you, sweetheart?

Insulted, Anger transformed into rage and went for Pain.

Just as he was about to strike, Pain — surprisingly strong — swiftly had his neck by her hand and lifted him easily to the wall.

Pain: I told you if you try to touch me, you’re dead.

Without another word, Pain crushed Anger’s neck and, in seconds, he exploded into dust.

And just like that, Anger was gone.

Instead of feeling horrified at the scene, Will actually felt light and free, like something weighing him down has been lifted or broken.

He never knew that Anger had tied him down at Darkness’ lair with an invisible chain, and how heavy it was carrying it around.

Will glanced at Darkness and probed her eyes. He realized then that she knew. She knew and hid it from him.

First Betrayal, and now Anger and his tricks. Just how much was Darkness hiding from him?

Pain: (slapping her hands to clear them of any remaining dust) Now where were we? Ah, back to your future. Come, let me hug you and you’ll see.

Before he could respond, Will felt Pain’s hurtful arms wrap around him.

Then, like a film rolling, he watched the future of a man who looked like Loneliness, served by Sadness and guarded by Depression.

He was shackled to the bed like an invalid by the heavy arm and burning legs of Pain.

Everywhere he looked was dark and empty.

Will: (gasping for air) Where’s Ayin?

Pain: (holds him tighter) There’s no Ayin. It’s just me, sweetheart.

Will: (struggling) No, no, no! That’s enough. This is not the future I want. Let me go!

Pain held on. She liked the feel of Will’s cold body too much.

Will fell to his knees and started crying from the torture of Pain.

Then he heard a voice from behind Pain.

Love: That’s enough, Pain.

Turning deaf ears, Pain stubbornly clung to Will.

Shaking his head, Love focused on Will instead.

Love: Do you even know why you’re crying? Why you’re hurting so much?

Will looked up at the stranger.

Will: It’s Pain. She won’t let go. She’s hurting me all over. Tell her to leave.

Love: Pain is here because of me.

Will: (accusingly) Who are you?

Love: I’m Love. I’ve been living in your heart for a long time. I’m so happy you’re finally facing me and talking to me.

Will: If you’re friends with Pain, just take her and go away!

Love: Tsk, tsk. Are you sure you don’t want me? I can give you a better future. Look.

Love grasped Will’s shoulder and showed him a different film – of him and Ayin building a life together.

Love: Is that the future you want?

Will nodded. It felt so right and peaceful that he was afraid to hope.

Will: Is it possible?

Love: With me, it is.

Will met Love’s unflinching eyes and realized the truth.

It became clear what Darkness has been hiding from him all this time by distracting him with Anger and feeding his Ego and the Beast — his love for Ayin and the beautiful future he could have with her.

Will: (remembering how he pushed her aside) What have I done?

Love: Do you admit it now?

Will: Yes. I love her. She’s the one I want to spend my life with. I don’t want a future without her.

As Will spoke his truth, Pain loosened her arms around him.

Love: So what do you want to do now?

Will: Find her.

Love: You can’t find her here.

Will: I have to get out of here.

Darkness: Will, honey, are you sure you want to go? I can make any dream of yours come true. Give you any future you want to see.

Will: I appreciate the offer, Darkness. But no thanks, it’s not real. I want a life with Ayin. No matter how difficult, at least what we have is real. You made me forget that. Our happiness is real. It can’t compare to your illusions.

He looked around the room and saw Fear, smoking on a bench.

Fear: (with pity) You’re too late buddy. She’s gone. Better stay here.

Will wavered and started to sweat as he considered Fear’s words and locked eyes with Despair, standing beside him.

Love squeezed his shoulder.

Love: Come on, Will. You have me. Take my hand. Let’s get Ayin back.

Will: (with hope in his eyes) Can we do that? Will we get her back?

Love: (winks at him) Have a little faith. I can do miracles.

With that, Will shrugged away Pain, stood up and grasped Love’s hand, and together they flew out of Darkness’ lair.

Pain: (runs towards the door, echoing after them) Hey, Wiiillll! Can I stay with you until you get her back?

Silence. Love and Will were already gone.

Pain shrugged. Never mind, she knew where to find him.

Chuckling at how fast Will got out of there, she turned to the room and stopped short as she saw Darkness with hands folded at her chest, impatiently tapping one heeled foot and glaring at her.

Darkness: Pain, you bitch. You did it again.
